Some doctors just don't want to deal with long term prescribing of the heavy hitters. But you don't have to be left in pain. He can refer you to a pain management specialist who should be able to prescribe for you as long as necessary. Don't give up! Be polite but persistent and press him for someone who will help you with the pain. This was major, major surgery! You need to have proper pain control!
