Have you seen Home Alone 4 ?? not wanting to dampen the mood, it is the weakest of the 4, but still acceptable.

Thanks Tao, I have not seen HA4 but cant believe its Kevin & family again - theyre all different actors! 3 & 4 have ruined the franchise IMO

I have also ordered it along with Scrooge and It's a Wonderful Life. Next week I will probably order Nightmare before Christmas and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, as they are the best Christmas films ever made.

Cheapest I found when ordered was play.com for National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, ot much extra, only trailer and audio commetry on it, but the film itself is worth the

Is play.com a good and reliable service? I have always bought all my DVD's from Amazon because they are very reliable and should anything go wrong I can easily get my money back. However, I have been looking at Play.com and the prices are alot cheaper and what's more the deliveries are free. In your experience, are they as good as Amazon?

I have been using play.com for two years (pretty much since they started), and the only problem I have had in all that time was an order sat in "Processing" for 4 days, which they quickly put right when I realised.

To give an idea I have 19 pages of "history" against my account, so I trust them.

But I still always check Amazon, Splash DVD and Play to see who is coming out cheapest (thats why my Alien box set is coming from Amazon).

Plus if you have a multi region DVD player, PlayUSA.com is competative as well (hence I have Finding Nemo), just make sure your player can player the latest Region 1 disc with RCE on (Region Coding Enhancement). PlayUSA is especially handy if a DVD is available on Region 1 and not 2 (Santa Claus : The Movie for example !)

Okay, I have registered with Play.com and ordered some DVD's but a few of them say, "Awaiting stock". The DVD's that say this are: -

The Office; Series 2.
It's a Wonderful Life.
Nightmare before Christmas.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
BO Selecta; Series 1 and 2.

Do you have any idea how long these will take until they are posted?

In my experience they are never out of stock for a long while, you won't get charged until they disptach as well (unlike a few other online companies !)

To give and Idea my Pirate of the Caribbean was posted on 26th and arrived on 29th, the longest from post to recepit has been 5 working days and that was the week before Christmas last year.

BTW, if you log into your account you will see the stage it's at, it will sit in processing for a few hours once your card has been debited and the item has been packaged.

In my experience it has gone : processing : packaging : Processing

I am guessing the 2nd processing is the time from where the order is sent to warehouse to pick n pack and the clear that it has been done.

end to end it usually is 3-6 hours, mind you my copy of Finding Nemo was in processing for a while. It was listed as posted on on friday and arrived on the Monday

I don't often post, but I wanted to get my 2 cents in here. :)

I can wholeheartedly say to anyone that, www.play.com and www.playusa.com are EASILY the best online retailers for DVD's, pure and simple. I was helping my mum do her Christmas shopping online last Monday; we bought about 8 things from www.play.com and www.playusa.com, and 6 of those things are already here; the others are expected this morning. Play has never been anything less than reliable for me, even at busy times of the year, and in the last four months I've already ordered 12 things - not bad; and all of them came within 5 working days. Amazon may rule the roost for books, but Play are the great ones when it comes to DVD's (and to a lesser extent, CD's and games). :) (And in y experience, Order placed, Processing etc. takes an hour or so; Packing takes up to 24).

To finish off, here's a run-down of how long things I've ordered from there took to recieve once posted:

www.play.com

Misery : SE DVD - 2 working days
The Truman Show DVD - 2 working days
Pirates Of The Caribbean DVD - 3 working days
Michael Jackson Number Ones CD - 3 working days

Billy Joel Greatest Hits CD - 3 working days

King Of The Hill: S2 DVD - 5 w/d
Malcolm In The Middle: S1 DVD - 4 w/d

Is it normal to receive DVD's from play.com without the plastic wrapping on? I have just received Fawlty Towers and Trigger Happy TV, and they have no wrapping on. The Fawlty Towers box in particular looks like it has been used as a football in the Play.com staff car park. Are they second hand?

No they're certainly not secondhand, play.com are generaly excellent DVD's, it would seem you have received a bad batch and with this I would contact play.com to request a replacement. Without seeing the actual DVD's you have received, the damage could have been caused whilst in transit.

A lot a companies will supply DVD's without the wrapping as they store the disc and cases seperately, so this is not unknown.

Please contact play.com on the following link:

'play.com'

'playusa.com'

I generally recieve items from play.com in plastic wrapping, however sometimes you just get the item bare. I'm certain they're still brand new though.

Play was always my preffered online shop, but a few things made me look for other shops:

1. Two backcatalogue titles stayed pending for three weeks, so I ordered them somewhere else and received them a few days later.
2. Two boxx sets i ordered went missing in the mail, they did send me other copies, but that meant waiting 3 weeks for my order.
3. Ever since the complete split up between play and playUSA the prices have become quite high. They used to be the lowest in price all over the board, now they're not cheaper than most other online shops.
4. Play.com is becoming to well known to be able to get through customs without being taxed (same with Amazon), so they have become more or less unusable for any R1 orders over

I had a similar experience with CD-WOW, I had actually ordered a DVD and CD from them, the funRAB were taken same day, then two emails, one to tell me the CD was out of stock 5 days and the DVD out of stock and was 2 weeks away, it too me a week to get my money back and the dvd was with me courtesy of playusa.com 3 days later, the cd ordered and delivered in 2 days from 101cRAB.
