does the hospital automaticaly test for hiv while the mother is pregnant? like while the mother is pregnant do they test her for it?
what if the test says postive? what will happen?

yes I just got mine done today...they do other things than hiv testing...like gestational diabetes.... but I got mine done really late in pregnancy...I'm almost 35 weeks pregnant and at the most have 6 weeks to go...they usually do it a lot earlier

oh yeah I have something called rolling veins and it always takes them a million times to get my veins so make sure you tell her when she goes to get hers done to be hydrated and drink a lot of water before she goes.

yes...they tested for hiv while I was pregnant really early into pregnany, when I got the other blood work done. They need to know things like this for purposes of the babies safety...it is routine for them to preform an hiv test during pregnancy...however I do think I remember being asked if it was ok to be tested for it. Hope this helps.

I was asked for it, I declined it however because I've only had one sex partner and I'm married to him.
Its mostly up to the woman to request it. I don't think they will automatically test you for it since HIV is definitely nothing like the treatable STD's.

They DO NOT test without prior written consent and your signature. It's the law. They can't just do it without you knowing that they specifically tested for THAT particualar disease.

I was automatically tested for it, plus 100 other things at my 12 week appointment with all of my other blood work. I didn't ask for this test and was a bit taken back when they told me i was being tested for it. I was like OMG i don't have HIV and the Dr. laughed and said it was standard. But anyways, for the clinic i was going to, it was just one of many standard blood tests they gave me while pregnant so i would assume this is common practice.
