hitting my leg with other leg while asleep

Hello, I am a 63 yr old female, overweight, with Osteoporosis and arthritis in lower back for the past 5 yrs. since I fell at work 5 yrs ago and got a compression fracture from it, my back hasn't been the same, and because of my back hurting 24/7, I sleep on my right side all the time,it hurts too much to sleep on my left side, I have tried, but always go back sleeping on my right side. recently about 3 months ago, I noticed I had a bruise on the lower left leg just above where you bend your foot. it also was showing spider vericose veins in that area. couldn't figure out why, then one morning I looked at my feet and my right heel was pressing against that area where it was bruised. the bruise is still there and hurts just a little. I concluded that I hit myself in the leg at night while I'm asleep and don't know it. I recently had an ultra sound done on left leg because of pain (nothing to do with bruise), haven't heard anything, so I guess there is no problem, or I would have heard by now, it's been almost a week. does anyone else have that problem? how can I stop it? I go to a free Clinic (no health insurance),after the Nurse Practioner noticed the bruise, I explained why I thought it was there, she didn't say anything.:(

Isn't it lovely when the doctor doesn't say anything? =(

I cannot say that I have ever had the problem you are describing, and perhaps this is cruddy advice, but I sleep with a large pillow between my legs when I am on my side. It keeps my knee bones from connecting and keeps me on my side more comfortably. Perhaps a large enough pillow would allow you to keep your feet separated long enough to see if the bruise goes away.

thank you for your responce. I have tried putting a pillow between my legs, but I move around so much in bed because of pain in my back, that the pillow falls out all the time. now I noticed I have a vericose vein popping out also as a very little lump, in the back of my foot, I think it's right on the Archilles tendon area. it hurts very little, but don't know what caused it.

Well darn!

I believe something can be done about varicose veins, and perhaps the bruising and swelling in that area is being caused by the forming vein. Perhaps when you revisit the doctor you can talk about the varicose vein instead (which hopefully will yield a response for the doctor)

I do hope for the best.
