Hitch hiking with truck drivers?

My boyfriend is in Texas, I'm in Michigan. He went to Texas in hopes that he'd get a job with his uncle. His uncle just went to prison for beating his girlfriend and my boyfriend is now homeless. My question;

Is it safe to go to a truck stop and ask to hitch a tide with a truck driver?
 
Idk what hitchhiking has to do with your bf, but it can be either safe or dangerous depending if the drivers a pervert or serial killer. A bus or plane would probably be the safest.
