this kata was not developed by Higaonna sensei. it is from southern china. and there are multiple versions of it. generally it can be classified as a naha te derived kata, since the most prominent version is found in goju ryu. but it's also found in uechi ryu and other styles as well.

as for the history of it, noone really knows where it came from. one guy will tell you one thing, another guy will tell you something different.

some things are certain...it's from southern china. its found mostly in styles of karate that were directly influenced by southern style kung fu.

Due to my earlier question, I would like to thank everyone. However, I have another question if you can help me. I know that Senseru or San Sei Ryu means 36 hands. I checked google for more info and is the creator of this kata is Kanryo Higaonna Sensei? If so, what's the history behind this kata?
