hey, i need help with the history of quinceaneras. just basically background info. but also how it has changed over time.

no wikipedia please. but thanks for all the help

Well it's mainly a tradition of the southern part of Mexico and countries from centralamerica.
It's supposed to be important for the young ladies because they start becoming women, and supposedly in some towns they can get engaged at that age, i live in the southern part of Mexico and im 15 so im invited to lots of "quinceaños" because all my classmates and friends are turning 15 too.
So how are the "quinceaños" celebrated?
It's a really big big party with a lot of music and plenty of food, as in a wedding.
So the quinceañera dances with her chambelanes the vals. and after that with his father and/or brother.
She gets lots of presents and hugs and that stuff.
On the other hand city girls usually do not celebrate their quince años like that. They ask their parents for money or they choose to travel somewhere, big and traditional celebrations are more in towns and villages which still have a very familiar environment.
