What I really need is two numbers, both covering all the regular season games played since the beginning of the 2000-2001 season to the end of the 2010-2011 season.
1. The average passer rating for all quarterbacks playing in games outdoors on the road.
2. The average passer rating for all quarterbacks playing games indoors on the road.
The goal is to determine just how inflated Peyton Manning's numbers are due to playing at least half of his games in a dome as opposed to other QBs, like Tom Brady, who play at least half of their games in the elements.
It seems that most people agree that playing indoors helps quarterbacks perform better, but I have not been able to find a website online that gives these particular statistics. Yahoo Sports and espn.com both have splits for playing indoors/outdoors and home/away, but they don't let you use both splits to see how a quarterback performs while on the road outdoors or on the road indoors.
It is important that the numbers only include road games. Because QBs often play better at home, mixing in home and road games into the split may also reflect home field advantage. By using only road games, a difference in the numbers can be attributed only to indoor/outdoor play. Thanks in advance.
