I am working really hard on learning to hip roll for a guy who I really like. I remember him telling me that he likes girls who can hip roll, so ever since then I have been working my tail off on becoming good. I have found not only am I getting better at it, I am really starting to love it. I think it's pretty rewarding when I notice how I am getting better and improving on things I need to work on. I have been really focusing on doing that thing that girls do when they move there hips in a VERY choppy movement. They sort of move for half a second, and then stop very abruptly, but I simply can't figure out how to do it. It sounds like it should be easy but my hips seem to refuse to do it. lol. Any tips and tricks?

..in bellydancing we call it ticking...we use our oblique (stomach muscles) to control the ticking. You can also use your gluteous muscles but that is harder for me.
Try standing on one foot and then try to lift your opposite hip upward in small, sharp motions using only your obliques.
Try doing that 3 times upward then drop...and repeat on both sides
When you feel you are really using just your oblique, put your foot down.
Try that going to the side, back , forward. It is a great exercise and will improve your muscle control
