Hip Pain that is more severe when lying down

Had several falls in which I landed on my right hip. Ever since then I have had moderate pain. Nothing really shows on xrays except a moderate hip spur. For the last six months he has become more severe. Much more intense when I'm lying downat night. I'm sixty five and the pain had gotten so bad at night I can't stand it. The pain generates down to my foot and knee and sometimes burns. An MRI didn't show any injury. Have any clues?

I once had a bad bout of hip bursitis that only hurt when I'd lay on it at night. Walking, bending, and regular activity during the day had little ill effect.

Do this test: Sit erect on a hard surface. Slide your fingers underneath the hip, between the side of it and the chair/table. Press your fingertips around the joint. If it's bursitis, this will be uncomfortable to painful.

I was able to relieve mine with round-the-clock dosing of naproxen sodium for a week or two. I continued taking it for about a week after the pain was gone, to make sure all the inflammation was out of it. If that doesn't help you, consider seeing an orthopedist.

My sister had a similar thing to happen after a fall. It turned out to be a piece of cartilege that bent over and got stuck. Arthoscopic surgery took care of it.
