hi im 20yr and had a 2 level spinal fusion on l45-l5s1 2months ago and now having lots of hip pain could it be from the hardware

Hi Mary, and welcome to the board!
You're still very early in your recovery. Hip pain could be from a lot of things. It could be that you're using muscles differently due to pain or caution of your back. It could be nerve irritation, which takes a long time to calm down. I don't know if the hardware itself could cause it, but maybe it's pressing on a nerve. Try to pinpoint the times it acts up, what you're doing and how long it lasts. Try to describe it and note whether it radiates in any direction. Those are the things to tell your doctor so he can best determine the source.

Are you walking? That's the best exercise for post-fusion. It's not too stressful to the spine but it gets blood circulating around it, which is essential for the fusion process. How are things otherwise? Are you still having much pain? Is your doctor keeping you prescribed with appropriate pain meRAB?

I wish you the best. Keep hanging around and reading. There are lots of us who have had fusions and can answer many of your questions from our own experiences.

It could also be aggravated by your sleeping habits. If I don't have pillows under my knees, I always have hip pain in the morning.

Did they harvest bone from your hip during your fusion? That could be some of the pain as well. At 2 months I assume your pain meRAB have been reduced. I had the bone harvested for my first fusion and its a source of pain till it all heals. My last fusion was done with synthetic bone so no harvesting was required.

thanx all for the replys and welcome msg. im still having the hip pain more when im walking i mentioned it to my surgon on my 6week check up and said i shouldnt have much pain there cause he didnt use bone from my hip he used it from the bone bank. but im having my 3month xray soon to see if its fused so maybe the xray well show whats causing me soo much hip pain. has any one had simlar symtoms after a l45-l5s1 fusion. if so dose the pain go after it heals?

That was my first reaction but I am hearing that doctors are using the bone bank more and more as the option for the graft.
