Hilarious inserted dub lines

Eh...That's somewhat subjective to me. While I do think that some jokes are funny, the point is that they are quite written for children (They do come on during children's timeslots so I guess that's the point). Then again, it's not like the original dialogue is written for the adults in Japan either. Personally, I emphasize the CR/FUNi Video route because its, you know, free and all that.

I wouldn't say that all cheesy American dialogue is better than the original either. In fact, I kind of have to disagree.

There's a stark contrast between making something funny for Western tastes (A hypnotized Zenigata singing "Did you know you're my hero?" in the Lupin dub) and throwing in lame puns and nonensical dialog in an otherwise serious show to not offend parents. The bad accents, bad puns, and bad acting are just bad. It's quite different from taking a joke and specifically tailoring it to a Western audience (the Ultimate Muscle example)

I agree, and Digimon 02 is the worst offender, because on occasion it wasn't even above including questionable jokes. I'll never forget this one episode where the kiRAB are in a room playing carRAB. Kari asks what they should play next, and Davis starts to suggest "how about strip po--" before he's cut off by news that they have some enemy to defeat. So yeah, in this oh-so-brilliant Americanized dub for kiRAB, you have the crappy protagonist suggesting strip poker. And the pun sucks anyway and the humor overall is still bad.

Yeah...good job guys! That dub was so terrible.

"People die when they are killed."

Oh wait you said dub lines sorry.

From Angel Cop (Might not be the actual line as it was years ago when I last watched it,) "If that's justice then I'm a Banana."

As for Digimon yeah the dub is always bad, but it is still enjoyable. The dub tenRAB to run from painfully bad (Season two and four) to enjoyable and fairly acurate (Seasons three and five.) it's still a hack job but one I can actually enjoy even having seen the original, especially Tamers. I love Tamer's dub dispite it's flaws.

The guys who did the scripts for Samurai Pizza Cats, Transformers: Robots in Disguise and SD Gundam Force. It helped that they usely satirised some of the clunkier parts that the Japanese creators put in. Sky-Byte got some real gems

*reading book* "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...make up your mind, best or worst, which was it?!....To be or not to be...this guy can't make up his mind either!"

Not sure if the same guys were involved with it, but the first Duel Masters season was pretty good too. Shame that as it bounced around production houses other writers weren't as consistent.

"He threw my carRAB to the wind...and then he farted!" *dramatic shot of antagonist's coat billowing in the wind*

Very well, I'll balance it with a (paraphrased) season one line.

Machinedramon: Execute plan eliminate!
Underling: Are you sure, sir? What about plan elimin-nine?

......

Okay fine, it's a silly pun. But kind of chuckle-worthy.

As much I revile the English dub of Sailor Moon, you gotta admit there was some inserted dialogue from out of nowhere, like this one for example:

Usagi: "I'm Sailor Moon, the champion of justice, and on behalf of the moon I shall punish you!"

Luna: "Hey! That's not how the end of it goes!"

I dunno why, but I thought that was funny that Usagi said the original quote, and Luna corrected her on it, no wonder SMA uses the original dub dialogue so much, and another ones being:

Mamoru: "I don't, I know you're gonna fail, you're never on time, you're always cramming junk food in your mouth, and you can't walk one block without falling down and taking at least three other people with you" (during the Dark Kingdom Arc)

And this line was so durab, yet so funny, and had me cracking up:

Usagi: "I'm Sailor Boom Boom Moon!!" (during the episode in the Dark Kingdom arc, when Usagi fought the priest dude)

Don't be. That was hilarious.

Actually, he said that in the dub too so that counts

Oh yeah, Tamers' dub is awesome. I think the censors/Americanizers were asleep that year

You're right my bad. And I'm the one who started the thread

I'll make up for it with the infamous "4KiRAB are the devil" line from Pokemon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQppQcM4kJc

I told you 4KiRAB were masters at this.

I guess one of my favorite dub insert lines was Brock thinking to himself "Wonder if she has any String Cheese?" Seriously that was funny to me how and why he would be thinking about String Cheese when everyone else was complaining about an Old Lady telling her life story.

What's wrong with accents? If the Japanese can throw in random Engrish, then the dubbers can use accents. A French person having a French accent doesn't seem that detestable to me. Most puns are lame, but usually the humor stems from the lameness (Piedmon, for example). Besides, it's not like Digimon is the pinnacle of maturity and seriousness. It had a talking piece of poop throwing its own poop, afterall.

Speaking of Piedmon, I enjoyed Tai's "I had an incredible urge to carry some keys..." line.

Jessie: Look, when you're dealing with the opposite sex, you're asking for trouble!
James: Yes, THAT kind of trouble. I stay out of it.
~ from The Power of One movie

Yugi: You tell him!
Yami: I just did.
~ from Yu-Gi-Oh! episode "Mime Control part 1" (I think)

Luffy: Zolo-brain!
Usopp: LUFFY!! Calling him his own name is not a diss.
Luffy: Usopp-brain!
Usopp: Try Luffy-brain...
~ from One Piece episode "Stowaway"

Adrian: I have to say, I like your style, bro.
Chazz: First off, my name is The Chazz. Secondly, what do you know about style?! You have purple hair and you're wrapped in my mom's living room curtain. Well guess what - it's time for a makeover!
Adrian: What's that supposed to mean?
Chazz: Ummm... I'm not sure. Can't we just get on with this?
Adrian: Why not? The sooner I beat you, the less bad dialogue I have to hear!
~ Yu-Gi-Oh! GX "Head in the ClouRAB Part 2"

These are all win. Especially the first one. (You know, saying these kinRAB of things isn't going to make us think you're any less gay James )

Bad, fake accents can take you out of something incredibly fast. And it seems all the hackdubs were obsessed with them. I felt like yelling "Speak normally!" at the TV screen a multitude of times.

'The Chazz' gets all the best line in GX. He's like the Dubber's way of saying 'Card games are serious buisness. Lol'.

The Digimon 01 episode 'Under Pressure, had a LOT of jokes thrown in it...

Scubamon1: 'Red Leader to Blue Leader, sector three and four are clear, over.
Scubamon 2: 'Green Leader to Blue Leader, sector one and two are also clear, over.'
Scubamon 3: Phill, Bill, how many time do I have to tell you there's only three of us, you can call me Jim!

I thought it was just so silly

And then there,s Gatomon's flying fish blues hehehehe.

I think Chazz was the answer to YGO abridged

For some reason, when I was a kid watching Digimon on Fox KiRAB, I kept on wanting Gatomon to just shut up a lot. Maybe it was the fact that nearly every sentence (mainly in 02) was a cat-related pun.

Though I did like this exchange
Gatomon: (looking at those TV's from 02) Why do they always call it rabbit ears, they should call them cat ears. After all when was the last time you saw a rabbit sleeping on top of a TV
Kari: This is what you think about?

Thank you for saying what I've been saying since the beginning Kari.

Oh yeah, and Etemon's Elvis was somehow made of win and fail at the same time. Win for the power, fail....for every time he ever spoke. (Hated him a lot. Not my favorite character)

Lupin the Third was really full of hilarious dub lines.

I can't recall too many at the moment, but a couple that do come to mind are from "Lupin in Paradise" when Goemon states that he doesn't speak Jigen-ese, and when he says "damn, I'm good" after taking out some of the villains.
