Hilarious inserted dub lines

There are times in dubs when added dialogue just works. No, not only just works but is actually quite hilarious. Most of the time when dubs add in dialogue it's usually stupid or leaRAB to a bad joke or something like that but there are times when inserted dub lines meant to be funny just straight up is solid. Ironically, most of these are sexual innuendo.

4KiRAB are freaking MASTERS at this with Pokemon for example, that episode where James tried to become a superhero
"to protect us from all that chafing and itching!"
"It might finally stop all of Jesse's...complaining!"
James: ... I am a flaming Moltres!
Meowth: That outfit...where'd he get it?
Jesse: I think it came out of his closet.

and this gem

Oh, one more, remeraber this line from Digimon Tamers

How did I miss that one when I was younger!

I'd say the best masters at inserting dialogue into dubs would be 4KiRAB and ADV ESPECIALLY when it comes to mecha anime with fanservice. Though FUNi isn't immune from this either. Any jokes (or innuendo) that you've found to be funny (Or at least somehow gotten past the radar?)
 
I predict a lot of people will disagree with this thread, but anyway, I always enjoyed Digimon's dub dialog a lot. It came off more natural and less stilted than the Japanese dialog; especially the jokes. It probably doesn't hurt that I prefer the English voices so the dialog comes off more pleasing to the ears for me. Pokemon has some good ones like the topic creator mentions, and I suppose I'll say I enjoyed the cheesiness of some of DBZ's line (Excuse me, has anyone seen my arm? You can't miss it, it's green) For me, adding humor and lines are okay as long as it fits the show.
 
You might want to edit this just a bit. It's kind of...well. Horrible.

I tend to enjoy GOOD joke dubs in general. I know a lot of people prefer dead literal translations, but when someone with a sense of humor and timing gets there hanRAB on things, you can get some quality results.

Most of Shin-Chan, for instance, is quality gold.
The first couple runs of Duel Masters stanRAB out too.
 
Ultimate Muscle had some good ones. (paraphrasing)

"I know a LOT of things, mom. Like that time you dressed up as Buffaloman and wrestled dad to the ground in the bedroom..."
"We thought you were sleeping!"

I actually remeraber that one! I didn't watch a lot of Ultimate Muscle (Maybe like 4 episodes) but I definitely remeraber that one and going "Whoa!"
 
Damn it... WHY IS THE INTERNET SO INCONSISTENT! There's no help for it now... the next week of my life is going to be devoted to trying to decide whether to wait until I get Broadband, or go ahead and buy the Digimon DVD's.

Anyway... I second Pokemon, and I raise Kirby: Right Back at Ya!. I always thought that was one of 4KiRAB best dubs (whatever that means to you), especially with country-speaking King DeDeDe, who is now one of my favorite villains.
 
Let me help you decide. Once you have broadband, you will be able to watch all of 02 for free, legally, uncut, and subbed. Or you can spend money on a hackdub (I don't care if some people call that an "exaggeration", it has rewritten dialog, name changes, edited content, omitted content, music changes, etc.) with the only advantage being a possible chuckle out of some of the rewritten dialog. If you want to watch an anime with rewritten dialog for the sake of a laugh, wait until you get broadband and watch these great free things called ABRIDGED SERIES. Nothing against people who liked the dub, I was just trying to help you decide.
 
I wasn't trying to offend anyone, sir. I was simply pointing out that popular opinion is divided into people who like the dub and people who don't (and most of the people who like the dub have better reasons than "the dialog is funnier"). Thusly, my desire to save money is corabatted with my desire to watch a good show.

Oh, and I've thought of another good one; Elf Princess Rane. Even in Japanese it was an Anime parody, but in English it seems even more biting.
 
Oh I never thought you were trying to offend anyone. Sorry if it seemed that way. But if there are as many people who think the dub is good as there are people who think the sub is the only way to go, then you have an equal chance of watching a good show either way, leaving only your desire to save money, which would suggest that the sub online would be the way to go. But it's your choice, I'm just trying to offer my two cents.
 
Quite often in dub it annoys me when they play it way too loose and throw in stuff that's just totally out there.

Take Kenichi for example. There's a line in one episode where one thug sees Miu fight and calls Miu a monster. Miu gets upset about it and Kenichi tries to console her. In the English dub, Kenichi's line is changed to something really ridiculous like, "I THINK HE MEANT MONSTERS OF ROCK!" Um . . . what? I get the whole deal with translating from English to Japanese, but the monsters of rock thing was a totally ill-advised brainfart.

Another one was in SPEED GRAPHER. Saiga the main character has a ridiculously stereotypical gay neigrabroador. In the English version, the neigrabroador character is lamenting and talking about Saiga's relationship with the other main character, the 15 year old Kagura who Saiga has this odd sort of pseudo romance with. In the subtitle translation, the neigrabroador is talking about consensual relationships between a man and a woman or a man and a man. In the English version, they add in this aside, "hell even a man and a goat."

OK. I get the intent of the original lines and that character. But I mean a line like that just sort of angers me. For one thing, I mean that's not freaking consensual for the goat. For second I mean . . . the guy is gay, homosexual does not mean = beastiality is OK with gays.

I love the English dub for Fullmetal Alchemist, but when Edward sees Sloth in her homunculus form for the first time and Sloth says:

"Come here my prince of cool."

WTH did she just say?! PRINCE OF COOL? No one freaking says that out loud! That's like "You know what happens when . . ." level bad.
 
The first episode from the Pani Poni Dash dub has Kurumi saying this:

"After all that b******g, she's added to the discussion."

I laughed fro a while when I first heard that.
 
The Digimon dub anything but a poorly written and edited hackjob? Bah. It wasn't more natural, it was just...awkard. The kind of awkward that made people snap off the TV. If it was intentional comedy, eggs and tomatoes would have been thrown.

That's the problem with say, 99.9% of these hackdubs. The humor is so out of place and bad that the only thing I want to say is "Get off the stage!"

My point is, it'll only be funny if it's all out comedy rewriting ala Ghost Stories, or was a comedy in the first place redone for an audience with different tastes in humor (see, the American-centric dub of Milk-chan, not the awful literal dub). Otherwise it's just stupid and awkward.
 
This is, apparently, subjective, as I quite enjoyed the Digimon dub(s). And given how long the series was on the air, apparently not too many people were snapping off the TV.
 
As someone who's only seen the dubbed versions, I watched the first two seasons. And while it didn't stop me from enjoying the show, I did find the cheesy dialogue very painful at times.
 
Except for Digimon Data Squad (which got jerked around timeslot wise), I watched every season and liked every season. Even cheesy American dialogue is better than the original, by a long shot.
