I'm on a mission to lose weight. I'm 6'5" and today I weighed in at 265, so I'm hoping to get down to around 210 in the next few months.

Running is fine. Painful, but ok. The only problem is the constant chaffing. It gets so painful right after the run that I find myself hurting for days. (any solutions to this?)

Today I had an idea to go on a hike. There's this beautiful nature area near my house. You hike up the mountain/hill to the top and around and back down. So there's lots of hills.

Which do you think would better help me achieve my goal? Running sounds harder, so I suppose that would be better. Should I just stick to running or alternate?

Woohoo I love tall guys :)

Sorry, now that I've put that out there I do have a solution to the chafing. Have you ever heard of that Dr. Scholl's blister stick? It looks like a deodorant stick but it's more like a lubricant to but on your feet to reduce friction between your shoes and skin in an effort to reduce the occurance of blisters (sorry that was long!)? I've heard that it's good to put on your inner thighs to reduce the friction, thus reducing the chafing.

In terms of what you should do, why not alternate? You could alternate every other day, but I think it would probably be beneficial to run two days and then hike on day, and then run two days and then hike one day and so on and so forth.

Also, I know you didn't ask about this, but losing weight is 80% diet and 20% working out. Make sure your fuelling your body with healthy fats, lean protein and lots of fruits and veggies.

Good luck, keep us all updated :) !!
