Hiking Macchu Picchu?

I am hiking to Macchu Picchu with some friends over my break from college. Lately I have been having a really hard time with nightmares about falling off during our trek. My group leader had been saying that it is really steep at parts. We aren't doing the entire Inca Trail, we are doing a 5 hour segment of it or something. Has anybody done this before and can tell me how it was? I know that this is completely irrational and stupid, but sometimes I can be clumsy and I am just a little weirded out. Thanks for your help.

My husband hiked it a few years back. I've seen the pictures and spoken to him and YES there are many parts that are very narrow but everyone is still safe (as long as you're not going with a bunch of people who thinks horsing around is funny). Understand that you're going to be up VERY high - much much higher than you have ever been in the States. Just prepare yourself with that. One of the girls that went with my husband's group didn't even like heights but was so awed by the view that she got over it. Also - Chances are if you're only doing a 5 hour segment, they won't be taking you through the most dangerous parts. :)
