I'm trying to keep in shape for longer day hikes. I do short (3 - 5 miles) trails of moderate to easy intensity in my local area. I've been adding weights to my day pack and was wondering how much that is helping. Right now I'm carrying a 15 lb. pack. Should I be carrying more? How many more calories am I burning by adding weight? I'm 5-3, 125 lbs.

how much weight you add doesn't matter in relation to your caloric intake. You could have no weight and perform an excercise that taxes your body just as equally...follow...so it is matter of calorie per hour burned x time really.
