What sort of bizzaro world have I entered that visual novels are being sold in America?

I'm probably gonna buy these.
 
Visual novels only have worRAB.

Chibi Vampire is an example of having the manga and visual novel released at the same time.
 
They'll be downloadable, so yes, people in the U.S. will be able to buy this.

I don't know if I will yet. There's apparently no erotic content, so that's good. Figuring out mysteries could be fun. My one issue is how scary it will be--the violence of the anime led me to keep my distance. Me and horror don't get along. But if it's a good story, it makes one think, and the price is right, I'd give it a try.
 
I just hope the guy editing the translation is better than the guy who wrote the announcement on their website. 5 errors in 4 sentences?

EDIT: The games should also include the TIPS, which were little pieces of story info, clues, and red herrings scattered in on the side in the form of news reports, anecdotes, and whatnot. For example (Part 3 spoilers):

There's a recorded interview with Keiichi in a mental asylum after he's been rescued, where he talks about how everyone in the village died because he cursed them as he fell from the bridge (plus an addendum about how he died of an apparent heart attack shortly thereafter).
So there should be something new here, even for fans of the anime series.

EDIT: In other news, they've also licensed the Shuffle! H-game. Yay.
 
I haven't actually played any of them yet, mainly because I didn't want to keep making comparisons between the game and the anime (usually such efforts don't turn out too well, really, since adaptations are hardly perfect, as my initial impressions of Phantom showed, although things did improve later in that particular case)...but this is certainly good news and I'll buy if the price isn't unreasonable.

I only hope people unfamiliar with Higurashi aren't turned off by the art style, going by all the screenshots I've ever seen. The visuals are definitely not too attractive, leaning towarRAB the simple side, but neither are they the most important thing for this kind of story.

I don't expect the games to be very gory in terms of visuals, but if the anime is any indication there should still be some rather explicit descriptions and sounRAB to create the proper atmosphere. Otherwise, the effects of all the events would be null and void.
 
Honestly, I was not expecting this. I loved both anime series (have yet to watch the Rei OVA and the new Umineko series) and I never thought that the visual novels would ever get brought over. Hope players can cope with the copious amounts of text.
 
Well, the Higurashi franchise is now licensed by FUNi, so anything's possible.

I just wish they could do a better DVD cover for the whole first season. I mean, they rehashed the first volume cover, how cheap is that?
 
Great idea, getting a visual novel translated by fans takes ages. This is something I'd pay for.

And for those who are not aware, Visual Novels are kind of like those old-school goosebumps books where you would make a choice and then go to a certain page to read what happened. Except way more complicated. Generally speaking when most anime companies try to adapt from a VN a lot is left out/butchered in and the overall experience is lacking by comparison to the VN. So if you're a fan of the anime, the VN is definitely worth your time.
 
Of course, do they have to be so...perverted? Some see them as Dating Simulations or Hentai(pervert) Games than stories and some don't see them as video/computer games at all.

And I know TYPE-MOON fans will cry "foul" after this.
