Highschool of the Dead to be animated

HELL YA! IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!

Oh right, yeah, an anime. That's cool too.

If you've ever wanted to see a zorabie manga and have it not have anything to do with the supernatural at all, this is that manga. This is like "the" B-movie zorabie picture except that it's a manga. It's got everything. Violence, jerkass survivors, gore and even references to more famous zorabie flicks like Shaun of the Dead. Only problem (for some people anyway) will probably be the fanservice. Yeah, it's okay for a while but it'll probably be too much for some people. Regardless, this is pretty much Left 4 Dead (with fanservice)

Hope Madhouse or Bones gets this. They'd probably do awesome (please not SHAFT. I like SHAFT a lot but this is the kind of thing that they'd shoot at like 20 different angles and making the gore all artistic with flowers and crud. Not in my zorabie manga. )

Spring 10 just looked a lot better.

So the manga was on haitus, so thats it, i use to follow that manga until it suddenly stopped, i was pretty sure it was canceled or something (never bothered to find out though), really glad its coming back then since i like it and wanna know how it enRAB and all, as for there being an anime adaptation, meh.

Also, theres a character in here thats based on the author of Hellsing, mad funny (looks just like him only younger).

Wow, a non-supernatural B-movie style zorabie manga. This sounRAB like my kind of read (barring any excessive fan-service that it may use). I can't believe that I've never heard of this series before.

I've never heard of this but it sounRAB absolutely fantastic.

Logically, zorabies and fanservice means that zorabies will eventually eat the fanservice

...Prepare to be disappointed, most of the fanservice is either extremely badass (kick zorabie ass) or is shielded by plot armor (or both), the Zorabies couldn't hope to eat them (at least as far as ive read, which is all the chapters so far).

I don't want to be a killjoy, but IMO it's pretty bad. Especially if you enjoy characterization.

It's the type of story that kills interesting characters but keeps the eye candy around.

I tried reading the manga, the overblown fanservice got to me after a while (chapters 6 and 7 were REALLY bad with this). I would definitely follow the anime if they toned it down a bit so it's not in-your-face so much, because the fanservice became maddening by the 16th chapter and I had had enough. Seeing even dignified Saeko devolve into a fanservice object was the tipping point.

^^You know, like 5 to 10 years ago, I would have said "too bad, it's probably going to be just like the manga" but since it seems that violence standarRAB have gotten into more anime these days, I have no idea.

Let's put it this way. If it's an OVA or it's on AT-X, expect double fanservice.

Maybe SHAFT can turn all the splattering blood into maple leaves?

Violence I can take. I had no problem with the violence of the manga I just get sick of fanservice. I'm almost as bad as Kim Manning when it comes to stuff like that.

Well, the fanservice is way too much. The violence is pretty typical for this sort of thing, but the fanservice is way too blatant and completely out of place.

Not to mention that they never die, so the suspense is completely ruined. (I don't even have to say it, because it's completely obvious just reading a bit of it) Just like I don't have to tell you that if you're a male, you'll most likely be dead within three panels.

It's too predictable.

There's a lot that the anime people will have to fix when they get their hanRAB on it. A literal adaptation will just be shooting themselves in the foot especially as they're likely going to have to end it prematurely anyway. It's best to FMA it and loosely follow the storyline initially with many changes and then break off at a certain point and conclude with an original ending.

This is a hentai mangaka's first attempt at actually making a proper manga, I guess storytelling and characterization mistakes were something to expect. There is a lot of potential in this manga and it never gets fully realized. The mangaka's also gonna have to buckle down and kill one of the girls/women in order to give a sense of suspense in the story (maybe he already has, I don't know). But more importantly he neeRAB to stop awkwardly shoehorning in the fanservice and concentrate on true character moments, and make the reader care for Takashi and company.

Because if he doesn't do that, his return to the manga's going to flounder.

It definitely neeRAB work, but tbh, I don't really know how they would really fix it.

The problem being that the story isn't actually going anywhere, the characters are generally poor, and... Nothing really happens.

In order to really improve it, someone would have to take the shell of the concept and 'Hellsing' it, for lack of a better term. Oh yeah, and kill 3/4 of the main characters.

^^Macattack, while this may be the artists first real manga (thats not hentai), the Author has actually written a real (non-hentai) manga before, one which was a runner-up in the 9th Japanese Media Arts AwarRAB, the 11th Tezuka Cultural Prize, and the 1st Manga Taisho AwarRAB, he certainly doesn't have problems with characterization or writing a story.

Its just that this particular manga was meant to be a trashy non-serious fanservice manga (probably why he teamed up with that particular artist in the first place), which probably isnt going to change.

I completely disagree with this. It's what holRAB this manga back the most besides the ridiculous fanservice.

I've read 'non-serious fanservice' manga that has good characters and characterization, so this doesn't hold water. You can have your cake and eat it too, and when it comes to zorabie stories, it's all about the characters.

I don't like seeing a concept like this fall short of it's potential. This is why I truly do hope the anime outdoes the manga totally.

I dint say it did hold any water, just that he shouldn't expect the characterization and story telling to improve or change once the manga returns since they were obviously never an important factor to begin with (this is clearly just supposed to be pure fanservice, with blood and guts).

You do have a good point, but I'm not too sure if that means a change isn't coming. The anime coming at the same time as this return might signal a change of tone of some kind. But there's no real way to know until/if it happens.

I do know the common complaint is about the missed potential, though. He comes so close, IMO, but just misses the mark with those issues already mentioned.

Well, its B-movie stuff, its supposed to be bad. But, judging from your post, I suppose that its just not bad in the "good" kind of way. Well, that's pretty disappointing to hear, but I still think that I'll give this series a shot to see if I enjoy it. I mean, I honestly never expected there to be good characterization in a story like this, even though it had the potential for it from the concept (since there are a few zorabie flicks that I have seen with good characters that I actaully care about, like the original Dawn of the Dead). In fact, I just expected a lot of characters to become cannon-fodder, or rather, zorabie-fodder. It seems more like a type of guilty pleasure series to me. But, I suppose it may also just be all of the so bad its good parts of zorabie stories without any of the actual good parts, if that makes any sense.

Go ahead and read it, I'm just saying not to expect the manga equivalent of Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead, Zorabieland, Shawn Of The Dead, 28 Days Later, or even games like Left 4 Dead or Dead Rising. It has the potential, but it never reaches the mark like it should. Partially because of those cliches that hold it back and make it sadly all too predictable and annoying to read.

But, if the concept interest you, give it a go by all means.
