High school student interested in education reform?

I've been reading a lot of articles for the past couple of years about education in America. Not that our teachers aren't doing a good job, because it takes one hell of a person to teach children, but it's just that the schools do not hold high standards for them. I'm really interested in education reform and working side-by-side schools to increase student attendance, grades, and extra curriculars.

My reason is because I am a pretty crappy student. I have horrible grades (my GPA this marking period is a 3.2, last marking period it was a 2.6!). I have struggled as a student in school.. I work my butt off and have a low GPA, but at least I am attending a proper school that challenges me. When I look at some of the schools down South, I can't sit here and watch these kids waste their lives. I want to do something about it. So, education reform is where I'm headed!

What jobs could I look into so that I can follow through with my plans to help low-testing public schools in America?

Also, in my high school transcript, what should I be doing NOW to heighten my chances of getting into college and give me experience at the same time?
