A horse canters away from its trainer in a straight line, moving 150m away in 14s. It then turns abruptly and gallops halfway back in 4.5s.
Calculate:
a) its average speed for the entire trip. (I found it to be 12m/s)
b) its average velocity for the entire trip using "away from the trainer" as the positive direction.
Please help me to understand how to get b).
The answer for it is 4.1m/s away from the trainer.
Thanks!
The formula is
Vavg =Delta d/ Delta t
