So my son is going to a mediocre high school and is (based on our moving to a different city), and is inclined to stay there though we are moving adjacent to a much better high school. The reason is that he has been involved in the speech and debate team for the last two years and feels he would go backwards as far as being accepted into a good college if he moved to a different debate team for his final year high school.
If he is right, then I don't want to hold him back. But if the better school is be better for him overall (also having the same acadec qualified tournament debate team) then I would really like to get him there.
He said he would go if he could get find some very good opinions (or as he put it, a professionals opinion on why he should switch he said he would come to the newer, better school.
So my question is, will it really make much of a difference on the impact of which colleges accept him? And if not, how would I persuade him to come?

Here is your professional opinion-

As a champion collegiate debater, and someone who was ranked 9th out of over 1,000 debate teams in the nation; it would not make a difference. Talent is talent, no matter what school you attend. Also, what debate team you competed on would probably have nothing to do with acceptance into college. My advice is to stick with debate no matter what you end up doing, but focus more on the technical aspects of argumentation to prepare yourself for college.
