My wife took her car into Mazda a few months ago because the A/C wasn't cooling properly. They found a hole in the compresser, so replaced it. Ever since then there has been a high pitched noise coming from the engine. It sounds like a dog whistle (it's that high pitched) and lasts about 4 seconds, repeating every 7 seconds. We've taken the vehicle back to Mazda but they can't find out what's wrong. They wanted to replace the fuel pump, and kept asking questions like "Does the noise get louder when you press the accelerator". Mazda can't figure out what's going on so they say that the noise can't be fixed and that we'll just have to live with it.
When we turn off the A/C the noise stops. My wife also says that when she's sitting at a stop light (with foot on the brake) the noise is softer than when she's pressing the gas. We've told all of this to Mazda, but they still can't figure it out. Anyone have any ideas? Should we take the vehicle to a different mechanic?
