High Definition Picture through DVR and DVD/VCR Combo?

Will an HDTV receive a High Def Picture with the following connection?

Cable into Comcast DVR…DVR into DVD/VCR …DVD/VCR into HDTV via HDMI cable.

Or does the HDMI cable have to be directly connected from the DVR to the TV?
