High blood loss procedure

I just received my blood work forms for pre admission testing for surgery on August 13. I am having a PLIF/ALIF and it states that any procedure with a chance of high blood loss neeRAB extra blood work. Just wondering why is this procedure considered a chance for high blood loss? Do I have to give blood?
