high b12 blood level

hi....mine is high as well. I have ulcerative colitis and related liver disease called primary sclerosing cholangitis. But don't know if it's related.

Are you taking b 12 vitamins?

What is the number of your levels?

I was just reading about this and it says for the most part having high B12 isn't to be concerned about. It said that people that are high in it tend to not have the Intrinsic Factor and Hydrochloric acid in their stomaches to help the body absorb it. Lack of the Intrinsic Factor can lead to anemia.

If you eat alot of red meat then you might be more B12 since it's in there.

I read somewhere a long time ago that the body gets rid of any excess B vitamins it doesn't use on it's own. I take B12 in a stress formula because it's good for calming the nerves. You all must be really calm if you've got too much of it. LOL!

my level is 1390. I do take a couple diuretics for a genetic kidney problem where I lose too much potassium and the drugs have a black box warning for liver tumors. Perhaps I should ask for a liver function test.

I wish! Mine's low, intrinsic factor non-existant so I have to give myself B12 shots every 2 weeks. My doc prescribes twice as much as I need because I sometimes don't retain it long enough to do one shot a month, she tells me I can't overdose on B12 and it's better to do a higher dose than to "run out" between shots.
