if this is in the wrong area, I apologize.

tried searching but couldn't find a solution.

I'm new to android, switching from winmo. is there a way to store pics either on the phone or sd card and not have them show in the gallery? tried moving a couple to a created folder on sd card using astro, but they still show up in the gallery.

if it matters I'm on an unrooted moment.

name the folder. .name with a period in front then get Linda file manager It has an option to hide hidden file extensions.

yea id rather do wa consty said cus i dont trust those apps in the market needing full network access. i dont c y if all u doing is encrypting a file right? and they don't even run ads they wanna see ur girls pics too lol

Hey! friend the best suggestion for your case I think you can store pictures in your application's private directory,(Caution: the data form the application private directory will get erased whenever it is uninstalled).Else, for hiding the images for the media scanner place them in a hidden directory(i.e., with a dot prefixed) such as "/sdcard/.donotscan/".

You're damn right!

I mean think about it... these apps simply have no need to have internet access. They're just renaming or encrypting files.

What kind of pictures do people want to hide or keep private? Would you want to see such pictures? I bet you would!

Writing an app to steal such pictures and upload them to an FTP site would be very easy. I've coded something similar that grabs a picture from a camera, waits X seconds, then grabs another picture, and compares them to see if anything has moved in the picture (like an intruder coming into view). If changes have happened it uploads both pics to an FTP server. The code to find a picture on the SD card and upload it really is just a few lines of code, and you know what pics to upload as it's simply all the ones inside the folder you want to hide, or all the pics marked as "hidden". You could even keep it running in the background and upload pics gradually (say one every 5 minutes) so that the data use wasn't obvious, or between the hours of 3am and 5am when the user is asleep.

Hey - do you think I've thought about this a bit too much? Would people pay for the partner app that allows such stolen pics to be viewed? Or maybe a widget with "Stolen pic of the day"? Maybe a rating system so users could rate pics 1 to 5 stars...

You could put in a .nomedia file into your folder that you store the photos in, that way gallery would see that and not even find anything in that folder ;D

Ya I was going to comment about PhotoVault.. other than the obvious name. it's a sweet app and I've used it for a while.

is he seeing all the girls I have in my Hidden Area... (More than 10 different girls, and over 30 photo's) as well as other random things I just don't want the average person that wants to check out my cool N1 to see.. I sure hope Photovault owner can't see em. although oh well if he does, I don't date any of those girls anymore
