Hide Name on Caller Id

I recently switched back to Tmobile from Cingular. When i had cingular i had my account set so if i called a land line the caller id would just say "wireless caller" and then my phone number. Is there any way to do this with T-Mobile? My reason is i got my phone through work so everytime i call a friends house or what not it shows up with my companys name then my phone number on there caller ID.

-Thanks

im not sure about tmo...but i know before they had the feature ON the phone, you could just call your carrier and request that your number be blocked. my son's cheap phone does it FROM the phone...shows up "unknown caller"

On the 8700, from the Phone screen Options there is a setting to "Restrict My Identity". I believe this just predials the # code to block caller ID. And your calls will show up as "Private Number" to the party you're calling.
You could also try calling T-Mobile customer service and see what they can do for you. I'm sure they can add it, but since you got the phone through work, you may need to have your IT department do something.
But the setting on the phone is good that you can turn it on or off.

see i dont want it to show up as private or restricted because this also hides the number. i just dont want it to say my companys name. It used to say:

wireless Caller
727-123-4567

you may just need to call tmo...
because i know, even with my phone on cingular, it shows my husband's name, when I call - because its his name on the bill...

With many carriers there is a way to show what name appears above the number. With Nextel it is called the "cnam", with other companies Im not sure. With Nextel it is preset to say wireless caller and the number, Sprint will say the account holders name and the number...

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~you have to call into customer care but the thing about it is they have to change the name on the account to that as a cingular emp. We can do it with that. By changing the network to wireless caller. But tmo does it for me

What you can do is call T-Mobile (not sure if they will let you directly but whoever handles the account at your business can do it if not) and ask them to remove the name from the caller id so it will only show the number. Most likely since it was a business account, Cingular had it automatically removed. I know on our dealer lines here we have no names but on our personal lines it does show our names.

This reminds me of caller ID spoofing... VoIP phones have the identity programmed into the software or something so if you do some light hacking you can make the name AND number say whatever you want. I saw that in an issue of 2600 and was thinking of all the crazy things you could do with that, but it isn't something I did. This reply has nothing to do with the topic, sorry.

The way Alltel works is however I (or Customer Service) sets the name on up on the account is how it shows up on Caller ID. When we received our additional 18 lines that we ordered a year ago, they all came showing the number and "wireless caller". I logged into the business portal and updated "wireless caller" to each person's name so that is a feature that I'm sure Customer Service with your carrier could change but you would have to have access to the account to make a change like that.

Good luck...

Ok here is how you block your caller id information from being sent out....On your 8700g go into your call log and push in on the scroll key on the right side of your 8700g..... this will bring up a screen of several different choices.....go to the one that says Options....then select general options and change Restrict My Identity from No to Yes......Boom fixed.....let me know if this works

no it doesn't cbinny that's not what he's looking for...he doens't want his number blocked completely which is what restricting your identity does it's like dialing *87 before you dial from a land line...what he wants is for the caller ID to not display the company he works for since it's the company paying the bill and that's the way their system is set up as of right now...he wants it to read Wireless Caller ###-###-####...he needs to call his service provider or talk to head of IT...let us know if you got it done zyiro
