Hidden Swearing In Childrens Films?

Some versions of the Goonies have swearing in and sometimes it is edited out. Chunk says holy shit when watching the police chase and I'm sure one of the Forellis (sp) says "****". Also the scene where Mouth translates to the Spanish housekeeper is often shown without the translation. I presume the Goonies must also have been a PG?
 
ACtually, when it was released on DVD, it was given a 12 rating, but this was because of the hanging scene at the start.

It was a PG beforehand with the hanging scene cut. The language you mention such as shit is perfectly normal for a PG rated film, infact, in a PG rated film you can say shit / bullshit / holy shit, bastard, slut, whore, tit, ass / asshole, and a few other worRAB. Only f*ck will make the film automatically a 12, and c*nt makes it an automatic 15.

Yeah I googled it he 2004 DVD edition was a 12. The previous versions say PG cut.

Also rabroad have **** out my f**k can you not write it anymore it never used to be a problem!!
 
Yeah the broadcasters don't have to use the BBFC versions. So it was probably the original cut. If you are after Big uncut on DVD then you have to order from somewhere like France or Germany, there's an uncut US version but it's non-anamorphic apparently.
 
Flight of the Navigator is another one. When the kid walks down the stairs of the ship in the hanger. The tech guy says "Holy Shit its an Alien", and E.T. has a bit of bad language in it and both films are a "U" cert.
 
I really love ratings. The recent original Star Wars trilogy DVD release is a 'U'! How can it possibly be a 'U'! In the first film you get Luke's Aunt and Uncle's burnt corpses and severed limbs! Hardly suitable for a 'U'? So, just because it's Star Wars it's OK?
 
The Dennis Quaid movie 'Innerspace' has a scene in which one of Martin Short's work colleagues/his girlfriend (can't remember exactly) lets rip at him with a stream of swear worRAB (loaRAB of 'sh*ts' and 'fcuks'). I have seen this version once on tv(in the afternoon!), but subsequent tv versions have been cut/redubbed.
Saw a japanese cartoon on Sky once about a pig that flew a 1st world war fighter plane ('Porko Rosso'?). In one scene he calls someone/is called(?) a 'bastard', but the word was cut in subsequent showings.
In Spy KiRAB 2, Carmen calls another kid spy a 'shit...aki mushroom' with a deliberate pause to make us think she's swearing.
 
There are a few annoying edits in The Goonies. One of them is the hanging scene at the beginning (which has been shortened) and another is the scene where Mickey is speaking Spanish to the cleaner (the subtitles have been rewritten to remove any explicit mention of hard drugs).

The DVD is a 12 certificate because the word 'c**t' is said during the commentary.
 
Yeah but recently I saw the Goonies on Ch 5 and the hard drug subtitles (& S&M references I think) were on. I can't remember about the DVD version.

Richard Adams Animated movie "The Plague Dogs" also has one of the Welsh Border Collies reffering to the Lab Dogs as Ba*****s.
 
They said "shit ake mushrooms" in Madagascar Penguins before they showed Wallace and Gromit.

Slightly off track but still on the bad language theme,I was in the Roald Dahl Story museum this weekend and on the feed back board,someone had written on a yellow sticker the word "bollocks".

Not one member of staff had noticed. I would have thought that they should have been more vigilent as I spotted it straight away.
 
If the word 'c*nt' was said on the DVD, whether on the actual movie or on the commentary, then the BBFC would have to automatically give the DVD a 15 certificate or edit the word out. If the word is audiable, then the BBFC have made an error as they are not allowed to let someone as young as 12, or possibly younger, hear the 'c' word.

As for Star Wars, as long as there is no emphasis on injuries, blood or pain, then you can get away with alot on a U film. In fact, nudity is also allowed, as long as it is 'natural nudity' and there is absolutely no emphasis on sexual activity. (For example, that Lacoste advert where the man jumps around bare-arsed in classified as U by the BBFC for showing in cinemas before the main film.)
