Hi! I'd like to know about American (US specifically) culture....?

I live in Manchester, England, and was wondering how different the two cultures are and what are the similarities in food, school, tradition, language etc? I'm just really curious and was hoping you could help.
Oh and I am also wondering whether American schools do get as hyped up about their sports as they do in the movies? Do the movies exaggerate?
 
the movies are pretty accurate about schools. Im curious to what makes schools in England so much difference since this question is asked so many times.
