Co-culture

In the study of cell interaction co-culture is obviously necessary. In some cases actual contact with cells grown in a mixture is desired while in others the mutual effect of cell types on one another is of interest while the cells themselves are kept apart. In the former case the usual cell culture plastics are ideal while in the latter the use of cell culture inserts may allow control both of the physical contact and also of the duration of that contact.

It is also possible to grow different cell types on either side of the membrane, allowing a simulation of tissue behaviour to be built and studied.
