hi could someone tell me can you fix a bad oninon taste in a dish your cooking...

No i was cookinga chunky steak and vegetable pie for tea but as its cooking the oninon is very strong and is giving it like a vermented smell taste.. the onoion was fine when i chopped it it was very strong meaning making my eyes water but no signs of it being off..
