So I'm making this story. It's during the time of racism when these two kids of diff races meet and become friends. However, friendship is tough between them because of their parents and through the book do they realize they have to fight against society. They start to hang out in a garden where they secretly meet and have fun. But then the white family finds out, and of course would blame the African's family. And it comes through this whole battle and the story's ending is tragic and sad with the death of the African. :) By the way to all those who hate racism, this story is going AGAINST it not with it!
but the thing is i want to have a story with centaurs and magical creatures like dragons, etc.
Is there any idea on how to combine a racism story like that with a story of magical creatures without making it sound cheesy?
The creatures don't even have to be real. As in they dont have to be actually there. They can be figments of the characters' imagination for all I know.

also would appreciate it if you could give songs/other books which could help give inspiration ^__^ sorta grasped into writing this book (or long story) and really want to write it well.
 
Have the boys, in the garden, write their own book of fantasy. The proposed publication of their story is what provokes the violence between families...
 
ok. when slavery was around if the whites caught the african messing with a white girl then they would hang them, The white girls could just say that the african was trying something and they would hang the african.

ok so to your question:
you could have a point where the whites and the african's parents find out about the kids. so the White parents was going to go tell the "poice" about how the
african kid's parents forced the white kid to hang out with the african. how that they were going to kill the kid and the parents. Or maybe destroy their house. well The 2 kids deside that both the kids and the african's parents run away.
somthing like that.
