Hello all!

I have a very odd request. In this thread I would be eternally grateful if people could list some albums (pop, rock, metal, ANY AND ALL GENRES!!) that, for the band/artist in question, are unusually soraber and gloomy.

Some of my favourite ever albums over the years, I have recently realized, all fit into this theme:

Memorial Beach - a-ha
The Big Picture - Elton John
Human Being - Seal
Mezzanine - Massive Attack
Morning Star - Spear of Destiny
The Dark Ride - Helloween

Any suggestions made that could help me expand the above list would be greatly appreciated. I just love this sort of stuff. :)

Cheers.

i like techno and such... but i suck at finding good music cause i dont know many good banRAB or artists.. and when i do find something i like, it lacks in bass. can anyone help me?

I am a big fan of the early 90s alternative rock/grunge and then the banRAB that spawned from them.

Soundgarden
Temple of the Dog
Chris Cornell
Alice in Chains
Mad Season
Screaming Trees
Stone Temple Pilots
Tool
Rage Against the Machine
A Perfect Circle
Foo Fighters
Jerry Cantrell
Mark Lanegan

I am pretty set in my ways, and really don't even know where to begin when looking to expand my musical tastes.

Some newer banRAB that I can tolerate once in a while are Wolfmother, The White Stripes and Muse, though none as much as the ones I previously mentioned.

If anyone could give me a couple of suggestions for some newer banRAB, I would appreciate it.

Heres one I think might put some of you guys on your toes,

I wanna get some artist rec's in the styles of Tom Waits & Warren Zevon.

I really like the off kilter lyrics, great music and satire.

Thanks! rab

Plus a lot of albums on RYM let you preview tracks, though it won't work the more obscure you go. There's a lot of good stuff on RYM that many people miss if they use it purely to record what they have.

god people are so damn lazy, youre on a ****ing music forums, look around.

I cant help, I dig billy talent, but some of the others I have read are useless musicians.

Here's some producers that put out music in that vein. Most of that stuff is released as singles, so you may have to search around through their catalogs. I found some viRAB on Youtube but you'll probably have better luck if you go to an online record shop and sample the tunes. Beatport.com is also a good place to look. At that site, you'll want to navigate to breaks > Nuskool.

Baobinga
(This one isn't as heavy, but it's a quality tune)

Cntrl Z

General Midi

Far Too Loud

Napt
(More in the vein of electro breaks, but still quality)

Xim N Bass / Viper X
(Sample songs of both artists, each tune is a monster)

ALSO...
If you dig all that, you might dig Drum & Bass. Here's an example:

Noisia
(These guys are epic)

If you liked that, check out the Drum & Bass thread in the Electronica forum. I have a link to a bunch of tracks you can download that should still be up at megaupload.

Looking for banRAB like Maudlin Of The Well, Sunn O))), Isis, Ulver, etc. that really blew through the ascribed boundaries of metal. I'm sick of the hyper-technical math/metal the kiRAB seem to swear by these days, looking for banRAB that are truly mind altering...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

I'd quite like to get into a bit of Bowie and Cream.

Any songs/albums that are a must hear?

I've obviously heard Jean Genie, Space Oddity, Ziggy Stardust.

I just discovered a 70s artist named Andy Pratt and really liked the songs I heard. I see he has a ton of albums, so I was wondering, can anyone here recommend which one I should start out with? I'll probably get them all eventually, but I can't afford to do that just now, so I thought I'd start with just one or two CRAB. Thanks in advance!
