HEY NOOBS! Want a band or song recommendation? Don't start a new thread post here

OK...so I'm looking for some good, modern soul music. I've looked through a few "Top __ Soul songs/albums" lists and what have you, but most of them consists of the same schmaltzy R&B/pop singers you hear all the time. It doesn't have to be obscure, just groovy, smooth, maybe a little funky...perhaps something in the vein of our well-known soul singers of the past, but with an updated flair. Anyone?

I thought he/she/it was asking for two recs - something noise/avante-garde and something more down-tempo?

edit - just re-read it. I'm gonna go back to sleep (good old Soundtracks For the Blind)

If it's great shoegaze you're after check out Swirlies and Bethany Curve. You might also like Cocteau Twins since they're probably the defining dream-pop band and a huge influence on shoegaze.

Holy crap that's amazing! I've never heard of them before, thanks for that one.

From the album Strange Arrangement by Mayer Hawthorne. I've posted about it before, and it's easily one of my favorite newer releases, albeit a little cheesy. The whole thing is good and catchy as hell, I stand by it 100%. :yeah:

Anything like Hum?
I tseems like all the other space rock banRAB I've listened to don't have many similarities to Hum although Hum is regarded as space rock.
or if anyone know's any technical metal banRAB like Decapitated that'd be cool too

And if anyone knows any Hardcore Punk similar to the Gorilla Biscuits in regarRAB to the small breakdowns they sometimes include in their songs that would be cool too.

If you really like Snow Patrol, especially their more moving ballady - type stuff, you'd love a couple of my favourite Australian banRAB, namely Art of Fighting and Gersey - both are well worth checking out for the sheer strength of their material, not only for the link to Snow Patrol -ish balladry...
