Why do you need a sponsor? What is in it for them?
To get a sponsor you are expected to sell them on the idea that they are getting something in return for their sponsorship... one person riding alone for 3000 miles isn't much advertising as you will go largely unnoticed.
So if you can come up with a creative idea of why they should spend their hard earned money on your ride, go present yourself to them, and sell them on your ideas... BINGO!!! Sponsorship!
