OK I kind of know how to answer this but kind of don't (I mean I kinda can't put it into words and onto the paper)

"But the dollar value of their labour – more than Canada spends annually on physicians' services – provides a measure of the unrecognized contribution caregivers make to the economy"

What is meant by “unrecognized contribution”? Explain.

Any help??? Please & Thank You =)

Also, if you don't know what a caregiver is & to quote the dictionary .... caregiver: somebody assisting in management of illness: a medical worker or allied health professional who assists in the management of an illness or disability

Unrecognized contribution means that the services are not counted to calculate GDP. Or it's called informal sector. The services are not on the market. For example. a daughter takes care of her dad, or a volunteer works in the hospital.

intangible contribution that we can't touch and recognized it. i.e. services, like psychiatrist contributes to healing people's psychological problems... the energy used by labor towards contribution of hard labor jobs, lecturer's knowledge contribution towards development of human capital and development.. etc.. etc..

I assume they mean unpaid care givers like some one looking after their sick mother

so how do you calculate what they contribute?
you pretend they are paid, so you can compare some how , what thier contrabution to teh economy is
