I SHOULD be saying do your own homework! But I'll give you a hand. Controversy has always been a huge part of art. It shifts with the times, but ultimately anything at the forefront of a particular movement is likely to be controversial.
Controversy in art basically refers to pieces that, for whatever reason, have people both strongly advocating and strongly condemning the given piece. This can be because of claimed sexual exploitation (i.e. Bill Henson) or Duchamp's urinal piece (where he signed the urinal with his penname and put it on exhibition).
Controversy also relates to what DEFINES art. Does something have to be made to be art? Do food dishes or everyday clothing constitute art? Or is art defined by the intent of the artist?
