why do we keep dropping in test scores compared to the rest of the world? what is so good about it that we need to keep it and the unions. we have been dropping for nearly 35 years. whatsup wit dat?
 
I think it's the local Christian churches' assault on scientific endeavour and conservative media's attack on the education system which has destroyed the average American's respect for education, leading to generations of lazy, apathetic students.

I think most liberals are appalled by the lack of money we give to the Department of Education and aren't surprised that our test scores are falling.

Compare the US's educational funding with other industrialized nations and the US is pretty close to the bottom. Its no surprise that our test scores are headed that way too.

I have yet to hear a liberal say that the Department of Education was wonderful - only that it needs to do more (and be appropriately funded) if we're going to turn the current trends around.
