You cannot keep any fish in bowls, since they curve inwards at the top, it doesn't allow for much oxygen to circulate in and around the water. There are few cold water fish you can keep in a small tank.

If you would like a Goldfish, I warn you that you will need quite a large tank. Goldfish don't need heaters, but they do need filters - as do most fish.

If you do not buy a filter, you are going to be having to clean your tank out a whole lot more than if you have a filter.

I suggest getting two Fancy Goldfish and a 40 gallon tank with a filter used for tanks up to eighty gallons. These fish need vegetables in their diet as well as frozen brine shrimp and blood worms, and of course - flakes/pellets.

Do NOT get a common Goldfish (AKA Koi, Comet, etc) if you do not have a pond or a 60 gallon tank at least per fish, since they grow to be very large and need lots of swimming space.

Fancy Goldfish are playful and social. They need to at LEAST be put in pairs. One of these fish needs 20 gallons at least of filtered water to live. They grow about 6" and live to be around 8-15 years old, depending on the amount of care they have.

On the other hand, if you don't want to buy a 40 gallon tank, you can buy a couple of Guppies. These fish do require a heater since they are tropical, but you can't put "cheap" and "fish" in the same sentence together since if you want your fish to live a long, healthy life, they need lots of care.

So invest in a 15-20 gallon tank. If you get a 15 gallon tank, you can put three guppies in it, and four guppies if you get a 20 gallon tank. Buy either all males, or all females, because these fish breed like crazy. They live to be about 3-5 years old, again depending on the tank and care given. They can be fed the same thing as Goldfish.

Good luck!

PS: Remember to cycle your tank first.

i had a friend who bought a fighter fish that lasted really long they kept it in a small tank the size of a bowl and fed they didnt even clean the tank the fish lasted pretty long though but NEVER EVER put ur finger in the fish bowl cuz fighter fish bite really hard.

You can keep many different types of fish alone, Bettas being the most popular. However, Bettas need a heater and filtration, contrary to popular belief.
Goldfish can be kept without a heater, but still require very good filtration, and at least 10 gallons of water per fish. No fish that I know of can live successfully without a filtration system, or in a small bowl. A Betta can be kept in a 2.5 gallon tank with heater and gentle filter, and are very easy to care for.
Since you know nothing about fish keeping, I strongly encourage you to go to your local pet store, book store, or public library, and get some books on aquarium keeping. You need to learn about water parameters, cycling the tank, and the needs of different species of fish. Look especially for books that are geared toward the beginner. There is way more to learn than can be answered simply or succinctly on here.
A well-cared for fish, with proper water conditions, can live for years. Mine average about 5 years per fish. However, a person who does not know about cycling the tank or adding fish can stock a tank and have them all floating within a week. Please, for your sake, and the sake of your future pets, please do plenty of reading before embarking on this hobby! Good luck!

Well I'd recommend a beta fish if you want just ONE....
Never put two of them inside the same tank.
They're easy to have, and they like small tanks without the pumps.
Plus they're really pretty O;

You cannot keep any fish in a bowl. All fish require filtration, and appropriate space to swim and grow.

The following are two examples of a simple set up:

1. You could have a school of white cloud minnows in a ten gallon tank. They stay relatively small and do not require a heater.

2. A single male Betta requires at least 2.5 gallons (preferably more), a gentle filter (like a sponge filter), and an aquarium heater. They are tropical fish and their temperature should be maintained between 77F-82F.

Please research cycling. All aquariums should be cycled prior to adding fish.
