hermit crab sand in fish tank?

well i am just setting up another fish tank and i was wondering if i can use hermit crab sand instead of gravel, is there any possibilities this will hurt my fish?
 
It won't hurt your fish, but there are two reasons not to do it. Sand is avoided in many fresh water aquariums as it tends to mix up with the water and make things cloudy when there is a lot of water movement. The other reason it is not often used as this sand is most likely a silicate. This will increase the chance of diatom blooms. The other problem is sand can irritate some fish that like to dig in gravel or finer materials like silt.
