I was involved in a motor vehicle accident. Could these be caused from it...

Neck sprain
Focal Kyphosis at C5-6 - which is moderate to severe
Thoracic spine demonstrates mild degenerative changes
mild disc space narrowing at L4-5 and L5-S1

They are recommending EMG/NCS of bilateral upper extremities
and they also recommend a PM& R Consult. As well as a nerve test.

Jenj770,

I am very glad prolotherapy is helping you!! :) However, as a sufferer of chronic pain with personal experience with prolotherapy, I just wanted to mention two things. The first is that prolotherapy doesn't work for everyone!!! The body's response is highly variable between individuals. After my last prolo session, my low back was so swollen, I was incapacitated for a month, and for months following in more pain than before prolo.
The second thing is that prolo is not permanent! My specialist explained that like his other patients, I could get anywhere from six months to a couple years of tolerable-pain to pain-free functionability. Now six mo. to a couple years of little to no pain was worth giving prolo a shot (no pun intended ;)), but alas, no luck for me.
I am not an advocate for or against prolo, as it helps some, but not others. Also, the fact remains that not much is really known about the efficacy of prolo. In the medical research world, its a giant question mark, with no solid findings for or against prolo. Even in the health insurance business...my injury is the result of a workplace accident and all of my treatment, minus my prolo was covered. They don't cover prolo as they do other naturalistic/holistic practises (i.e. accupuncture), as they are not sure of prolo's effectiveness either.
On a final note...I am a proponent of research, and to anyone considering prolo, please, please, please do your own research! Don't go into it blind! And be wary...many of the websites out there offering prolo tout it the best thing next to sliced bread...take these websites with a grain of salt. :D

Take care!

Hello everyone again.. now I am having stomach pain on top of everything else.. I am sick I am sad.. I hurt.. and only when I feel like this do I get more upset.. My neck pain comes and goes.. but is always there.. after I leave the chiropractor some days I feel better.. and others I feel worse.. and now I dont think I can afford any more medical treatment.. I am lost.. the people who caused the accident have very low limits.. my medical bills are at that limit and i have an attorney to pay on top of losing my job because of my accident.. i just need someone to talk to now..

I did, today I went and saw a chiropractor.. and he said I am going to need a lot of work, he kept saying Oh my gosh, geeze, man.. - I am guessing that is not good.

I am on a muscle relaxant, pain meRAB, anti-inflammatories, etc. Is it bad to take all of these medicines for a long time.

I am sorry you are going through this. I can sympathize with you. I lost my job also as a result of my issues. My husband is loosing his job in 3 weeks due to his company (Circuit City) going out of business. He has still not found another job, and I will not be able to work until several months after my surgery at best, the surgery is in another month. The medical bills are piling up, We loose our medical coverage on march 31st, and I just found out I will no longer be getting disability payments. It is a very stressful situation. Do you have family you can ask for help from? As erabaressing as it is, we are going to have to ask for help, but that is what family is for.
I might suggest seeing an orthopedic or a neurologist instead of a chiropractor. Obviously you are not getting better, and chiropractors are not doctors. The spine is a very sensitive part of your body and many nerves are involved and, in my opinion, chiro's can do more harm than good in a lot of these situations.
Good luck! I am right there with ya!

hi again angel light yes its not good to take these meRAB for a long time however sometimes the benefits out weigh the side effects i would keep involved in the conventional medical approach as well you never know how helpful their diagnostic tests could be.

Kyphosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine and could have been caused instantly by a car accident the degenerative changes and mild disc space narrowing would occur over time but may have been started by trauma such as a car accident.

you should notice some improvement fairly quickly with the chiro if after some time there is no improvement or you are worse i would discontinue treatment.

good luck angel light keep us posted

Hi,

Since you were also willing to consider Chiropractic I thought I'd mention another alternative for you. I just posted this on another thread, but briefly.

For the last 5 to 7 years I was having major back problems, even hospitalized a few times. The last 2 years I have had ongoing chronic pain and have been unable to walk more than a block. Standing and sitting were also a problem. During this time I was in a back brace and had to use a cane. I had tried everything - cortisone injections, PT, anti inflammatories, etc. Finally, I had resigned myself to the surgery that was suggested for my seriously degenerative discs L5-SI and hypermobility.

Then someone told me to look into Prolotherapy. I had my 5th session yesterday. They usually recommend 3 to 6 sessions, depending on the nature of the problem. I am now 90% improved, walking long distances with no pain/limp, resuming normal activities, no brace or cane. I am truly amazed at this method of permanently restoring defective body parts! I highly recommend!

All the best,

Jen

No, my parents would not even come and see me after my accident - kept making excuse after excuse.. I should not even care, and even after all of the grief they have put me through it still hurts.

I hope something works.. I have a prescription for these anesthetic patches that are supposed to relieve pain, but the only problem is that they are 250-300 per prescription.. I need them I know they would help with my neck but not when we cannot afford it.

I hope things start looking up for you. I will keep good thoughts for you! Let me know how your surgery goes. I am sure your husband will find another job. I pray at these times.. hoping that things look up.
