I am 18 years old. Over the past couple of weeks I have gained about 10 lbs. I have not changed my diet or exercise habits. Also, I have been having frequent urges to urinate, and I have noticed a lot of swelling in my face...and no, I'm not pregnant. When I was 3 years old I was diagnosed with a rare kidney disorder but it was gone within a year. Do you think it's possible this could be related eventhough it was so long ago? Or is it probably nothing serious? Blahh its just really depressing gaining so much weight so fast.

Katelyn,

Hi, and welcome to the boards. I have had kidney disease for quite awhile, and your symptoms do sound kidney related. I would encourage you to see a doctor right away, and get some blood tests. Are you feeling unwell?

Until you see the doctor, I would encourage you to cut back you salt intake, and drink lots of water. Let us know what happens please...

Yes, I know the weight gain can be miserable, but it doesn't sound normal to experience weight gain without reason either. Kidney issues can cause you to retain a lot of water, which causes the puffiness. Rather than be embarrassed, get in there and find out exactly what is going on, OK? You need to keep your kidneys healthy, because they have to last your entire life. Keep in touch....

Yeah I went to the doctor yesterday. They took my urine and everything seemed to be fine. So I'm going to get blood work done today. It could be my thyroid. Or still my kidneys. We'll see. It sucks now though because my parents are accusing Me of being pregnant :/
