Help with USB storage

I am VERY new to the android platform and trying to pick it up as quickly as i can. I have a rooted MT3G (magic) with cyanogens latest stable build.

I cannot seem to get USB storage to work. When i go into the options, there is no option to turn it on. I have mounted and unmounted it. and still there is no option to turn it on.

I have installed the Android SDK on my computer and am using the USB driver supplied and my windows 7 machine can see the android device when it is plugged it... just not the SD. I can take the same SD out of my Android, plug it in to my Blackberry and plug my blackberry in to my PC and it works perfectly. I can see the SD, copy anything to it, etc.

Any suggestions? I want to get more into modding it so obviously a big part of that is copying files to my SD which is why i really need to get this to work.

Thanks in advance!!

That catches a lot of people out.

It's there for a good reason. A lot of people like to charge their phones at work or school or wherever. They don't want the computer having access to the phone's files in the process... having paranoid virus scanners delete stuff, images and media thumbnailed, and corrupted files when they unplug their phone without "Safely removing hardware" - not realising it was mounted.

Heh, had the same problem for a while, takes some time to figure out. There's an app on the Market called MountUSB which I find handy, can put a shortcut to it on your home screen, just need to tap it to mount the phone
