The Color of Water by James McBride,
can you help me answer this question?

How is the title of the book The Color of Water significant with respect to questions of race and religion? What vision does it offer to Americans?

can someone please answer this seriously, and not give me comments on unhelpful items.
Thank You.
Links are fine too :D

Well water has no color, and throughout the book ruth is trying to explain to the kids that color doesn't matter, water doesn't have a color, and we shouldn't judge people off their color. To Americans, I think its just the idea to have an open mind, and think that everyone is the color of water, which was exactly the lesson ruth was trying to teach james.
