help with singing style

So i've been talking with a band recently and they are interested in making me their lead vocalist. i've recorded one song as a demo over a demo they sent me and they like my voice.

however... my natural singing style is similar to that of amy lee from evanessence. they are looking for a more indie/punk style, similar to blondie, the yeah yeah yeahs, rilo kiley, and metric.

i know i can sing like this, the only problem is i keep over thinking it. it seems to be a very simplistic style of singing. i can sing along with it just fine, but when i start to try and write my own lyrics to the band's music and sing in the style i lose it.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.:thumb:

The only advice I can think of is to just practice. Especially practice singing along to songs by the artists you're trying to emulate. Obviously your "natural" style is at odRAB with this but in time it will come, trust me. If you listen to certain music a lot and sing along with it, in this case to Blondie and the like, you will soon start sounding like those artists - even in your original songs. Ask anyone who used to be obsessed with Nirvana in their teens and started writing songs, lol. I'm 25 now and I'm still trying to shake the influence.
