Hi,

I work for phones 4u and have a customer issue i would greatly appreciate some help on.

my customer, like me, has a sony xperia x10 running android 1.6

she has a song that she would like to set as a message ringtone but cant find how to do it.

i advised her to go to menu > settings > sound & display > notification ringtone
she did that, but rather than the normal options box to select between system and my music, it took her straight to ringtones.

so i thought clear defaults? however under applications > manage applications > android system > launch defaults, it says no defaults set

how can we get around this problem? either through settings or an app, this is so frustrating id love an answer

Hi, and welcome to the AC forums.

There are two ways to do this.

Android uses the following directories for audio files that are used for notifications, ringtones, and alarms respectively:

\media\audio\notifications\
\media\audio\ringtones\
\media\audio\alarms

So, if you want a ringtone to be available as a notification tone, you must create (if required) a folder called "media" on the SD card, then inside that folder created one called "notifications", then copy the ringtone into that "notifications" folder.

The way most people do it, however, is to download the app called Rings Extended. After it is installed, it will allow you to choose any ringtone from anywhere on your SD card (it will search your entire SD card for ringtones) in any application that can choose a ringtone for something (it replaces the ringtone chooser). So, you install it, then go to Messages -> Menu -> Settings -> scroll down to the Notification settings -> Select ringtone -> it will then give you a choice between Android System (the normal ringtones you normally get) and Select music (which uses Rings Extended)... select "Select music" -> Music -> and select your ringtone.

Just the trick. Made my customer very grateful and helped me to provide good service.

I appreciate your help and now have one more great android thing to shout about... AC ;-)
