hey these problems are really hard. if you are going to help, i would super appreciate you giving the the steps or clues that will help me solve it rather than just the answer!!

Q) A 30-kg shopping cart full of groceries sitting at the top of a 2 m hill begins to roll until it hits a stimp at the bottom of the hill. Upon impact, a 0.25 kg can of peaches flies horizontally out of the shopping cart and hits a parked car with an average force of 490 N. What is the depth of the dent made by the can on the car?

now the way i think of this is that impulse = force * time, and since they give u force and the can of peaches impulsed on the car, wouldnt u use that formula? now all u have to do is find the time but how wold u find the depth of the distance !!??? soo lost

Wow..
This is probably one way to look at it..
F = m a (mass * acceleration).
a = 490/.25 (Plz convert to the right units.)
Now we have a.

Since its a dent.. the final velocity = 0.
V = u + at

S = ut + .5 a t^2, S is the distance..

Now you get two equations in t..solve the quadratic eqn and u ll get the answer...
