Help with my sleep pattern?

So i am 17 and have never had a good sleep pattern. I mean literally one summer the earliest i went to sleep was 12 and the earliest i woke up was like 12 or 11. Recently however since school started i find myself in my bed with my laptop and finishing homework which i hold off until about 9 and finishing it at 10 or 11. I am ok in class and average A-B but i suck at math and it may be because i am always falling asleep in that class.

Basically does anyone have tips for getting back on a proper sleep schedule? Is it bad to eat before i fall asleep? Are there any other activities that help to get me tired and not keep me up like my laptop?
