Help with Gardening on Sims 3?

Read a Gardening book from the bookstore, once you read it to gain a skill level, you will get some seeds which you just click on and plant them, or you can find some seeds in the park.

Once you learn the skill from a book or if you wish to attend a class, you can then watch it on the TV to gain a skill point as well.

Also, you can fertilize the plants with fish you catch from a pond, or other things you receive from your garden. The higher the Quality of Fertilizer the better your plants will be.

I noticed that there are a couple houses that have gardens in the back yard. My questions is how do you build the gardens? Also do you have to go to classes to learn how to garden? I got ahuge house and I want to start putting a garden and things for my stay at home mom sim to do. Thanks in advance!!
