Hey, can anyone help me out. I have the latest PRL for CricKet (1039) and a copy of the Motorola PST and a v262. Can anyone help me out on a procedure to put that PRL onto the phone. It came as an Alltel phone if that makes a difference, but Alltel doesn't provide service in my area. Besides, I would actually like to use the phone for Jump Mobile (which is part of CricKet). Again, if there is anything else I need (I do have the usb cable), please tell me. Also, if you need me to give more info I would be happy to. Thanks for any help you can provide.

This is off the top of my head, so I can't promise much accuracy. BUT....

Open your PST (make sure your phone is connected to your PC), let your mouse hover over the button icons at the top till you find the open one and click it. It'll give you a big list of what to open, one option should be like "CDMA PRL blah blah blah" or something. Click that. Find the PRL (Moto's PST looks for *.rla files by default IIRC) and select it. Up towarRAB the top left you'll see an icon with a phone and an arrow pointing at it. It'll be "Write to Phone" if you hover over it. Click it and watch. The window that pops up will tell you if you did it right.

It's something like that. If you can't get it with my sketchy instructions drop me a PM and I'll get you better ones as soon as I can.

Hmm, well maybe I don't have the right PRL file. I did see the option to open a prl file but the file I have is a .prl. When I open it by selecting all files (*.*), it seems to open fine. Is this alright then or should I try to find the .rla file? Thanks for your help, I don't know why I didn't see that option before. :p

It's the right file, yes. Motorola just uses a different extension. Heck you could rename it to *.rla if you'd like and it'd not be a problem

Ok, I thought so since I didn't get an error when opening it, but I wanted to check. I'll let you know how everything goes (and if I have any more questions). I don't have the cable yet but it is being shipped. ;)

Well, today was the day. My cable arrived and I plugged it in and the phone beeped and Windows made it's usb device noise (btw, I love that noise). But then it didn't have a driver to install. So on a google hunt I went and it seemed the answer was to download P2k. This program had a driver included with it. However I did not actually use this program to fix my phone. I did use the PST but when I started it, it wanted to install drivers so I pointed to the one that was included with P2k. This was repeated about 6 times for different "devices" that were recognized. Then I was able to write the new PRL to the phone and restart the phone with PST. Warning to anyone doing this...after you write the PRL, the phone will appear to turn off and pressing the power button will NOT turn it back on. You must use the option in PST to restart the phone. When I first saw this I was thinking "oh no, I now have a $50 paperweight (before it was just a $50 watch)". But really it was just that easy to write the PRL, it only took a few seconRAB. And then when the phone was restarted it did find service even in Home Only mode. And I made some test calls that told me I had no funRAB left (cuz I never put any on yet) so I am pretty sure everything is OK. I hope anyone else who is trying to do this for this phone or a similar phone will find this thread helpful. Thank you Freddy Flash for your help. Without you I might be crying over my phone right now.

It's a pleasure :D Glad to hear it worked.

As a side note, with the phone not turning back on: If you pop the battery out and disconnect the cables, then pop the battery back in it'll turn on fine then. It's weird but it works ;)

i have a verizon phone that i want to do the same on. is it possible to back up the prl already on your phone and revert back if i wanted to go back to verizon? if so can you tell me how?

Short answer: yes!

You can use PST to read from the phone the prl file and then save that on your computer. If you ever need to put it back then follow the instructions above. :2thurabs:
